Description:
Hi! My name is Ghost and my 1 year anniversary of living in the shelter at PAWS Humane is December 4, 2017. That’s also the anniversary of the day I died and was brought back to life. Yep, you read that right! I’ll tell you my story…
When I was just a puppy, I was surrendered to the local animal control with my brothers and sisters, but I was the only one wily enough to escape. I ran to the woods for safety and lived there for almost a year. My only friends were a colony of feral cats and my only toys were random items I would find lying by the nearest dumpster. The employees at animal control were nice enough to put food out for me everyday along, with the medicine I needed to keep me healthy. I am thankful for that, but I still did not trust those humans!
However, after about a year of living wild in the woods, I started to get lonely and decided to approach some of these dogs I would see attached by a rope-like device to a human being. I didn’t know why they were attached, but for some reason I felt safe enough to approach the dogs and initiate play. One day, I followed one of these dogs into a fenced area and got trapped! The humans put one of those rope-like devices around my neck and I got so scared that my heart stopped beating…literally. Thankfully, one of those sketchy humans brought me back to life with manual CPR and I have been living a much better life ever since. Turns out those humans aren’t so bad after all!
I still have a hard time trusting humans, but I warm up quickly if another dog is present along with some string cheese or hotdogs. Those are my favorite treats! The humans continue to try and pet me, but I don’t love it yet and they seem to want me to sleep in this big house they made for me. I’m not crazy about that idea yet either.
I love living in my outdoor enclosure and would really prefer a privacy fence over chain link. I get a little nervous when strangers can see me. I would LOVE a permanent doggy sibling or two to play with. They can teach me more about how to be a domesticated dog and help me feel safe. I may never be a snuggler with my humans, but if you give me my favorite treats, I will show you as much love as I know how.
