Description:
Hey, I’m Hazel! It’s nice to meet you! I’m not very old, but have had lots of medical issues, so I really need someone special who can help me out. I’m super sweet, and I love any attention I can get; I especially love when you brush me because it keeps my beautiful coat shiny and healthy. My favorite pastime is sitting in a friendly lap and purring the day away. It was my lucky day when I ended up with this rescue group, because they got me the medical attention I needed. I’m in a great foster home, but I really would like a home and person to call my own.
I have a disease called Stomatitis, which is a very painful inflammation in my mouth and gums. Ulcers can form if left untreated but my rescue group helps keep this disease under control. Almost all of my teeth have been pulled as it is not uncommon for this disease to attack the teeth and bone. You would think I would prefer wet food over dry due to having so few teeth, but I am one of those unusual cats that don’t like wet food…well, I’ll eat it if you mix a little into my water each day. That also encourages me to drink enough water. I am not able to chew, so I swallow my kibble whole. Therefore, you need to make sure and not over-feed me or the food expands in my tummy and makes me sick.
My foster mom gives me an eye dropper of water every day to check my mouth to make sure there are no sores. Other signs that I’m having flare ups, are that my coat looks dull with a lot of dander and I paw at my face. Although it won’t go away, if I get on antibiotics when my Stomatitis is really bothering me, I start to feel better and start grooming again.
