Description:

My name is Marshmallow. I am a pretty, 9-year-old, female, 50 pound White Boxer. I am a super lover. I am very gentle with people, and I have never met a stranger. I am happy to greet everyone I meet with a smile and a kiss. I adore children. They are so innocent, smell good, and I can often taste what they had for lunch when I give them kisses! So much fun.

I like most dogs, but every now and then there is a dog who gets up in my face too close and I feel compelled to give a little “ruff” for them to back off. I’ve heard of creatures called kitties, but I have never met one, so am not sure yet how I would react to such a thing.

Last year, I lost my way. It’s foggy to me now, I either wandered away from home or my family put me out on the street. Next thing I knew I was in a shelter with lots and lots of other dogs. I was taken in by a rescue group and have been in foster care with my foster mom since September 2016. She has taken excellent care of me.

I have had health issues. I have had several mast cell tumors removed. I also have a disease called Degenerative Myelopathy which makes it hard for me to walk. It’s been progressing slowly and it is getting harder and harder for me to get up when I am laying down, get into the car, and sometimes I fall over when I am walking. I wear a harness so my foster mom can help me stay steady on my feet, and sometimes she picks me up. Sometimes I have trouble getting up and out of the house to go to the bathroom, but my foster mom forgives me because she knows it is not my fault. My body just doesn’t always do what I need it to do at the speed I need to do it in.

My foster mom is in the military and she is being reassigned over seas so I need to find a new foster home or someone who is willing to give me a permanent home for the rest of my weeks, months, years. I don’t know how long I will live. I am considered a hospice dog. Peace of Mind Dog Rescue is offering to pay for my hospice vet care expenses for the rest of my life for anyone who is wonderful and wants to adopt or foster me. I am currently in Monterey County, California, but I am told there are volunteers who can get me just about anywhere in the country if there is a loving someone willing to take me in. Could that be you?
