Description:

Hi, there! My name is Nico. I’m a Lab-mix with lots of energy and a desire to play, play, play! Before coming to Highland Lakes SPCA, I was allowed to do whatever I wanted and didn’t have any manners at all. The people here are so nice and have been teaching me some basic commands (like ‘sit’ and ‘stay’) and how best to behave on a leash. I’m doing a whole lot better than when I first came to the shelter, but I still need some work.

I like to spend time with other dogs but I’m learning what it means to have boundaries. Sometimes it scares me when another dog becomes assertive around me, and my reaction is to bark and growl. I know that’s not the right thing to do, but it’s just my instinct. These super nice humans are working with me on becoming more comfortable around other dogs. If a forever family can be patient with me, I just know that I’ll be able to pick up lots of good habits! I’m already housebroken, love to chase a tennis ball, enjoy going for hikes, and I like to meet new people. I would most likely thrive in a home where I can have room to run and if there are children in the home, it would be better if they were teenagers.
