Description:
Hello friend! My name is Sampson, but you can call me Sammy. I’m a three-legged Pyr/Akbash mix with a big physique and even bigger heart. Although you and I have yet to meet face to face, I already know that we’ll get along beautifully, because I adore everyone (aside from the mailman), and love effusively and wholeheartedly!
My humans are very special to me, and I like to always be near them so that I can keep watch, put my big ol’ head on their laps, and get some belly rubs, if they’ll graciously oblige. I really appreciate all kindness shown to me, and pride myself on being a loyal and loving best friend in return, not just to my people, but to other animals, too!
I have yet to meet a dog who isn’t my buddy, am indifferent to cats, and don’t know any kids but imagine I’d love them too (provided they’re over six, as my 85 pound frame may intimidate little ones). I would so love to have a doggy sister in my new home from whom I can learn and draw confidence. I get a little anxious when left alone and don’t like to be crated, and have found that having a kind and mature doggy role model/companion–like I do in my foster home–helps me to feel safe and secure.
I love taking naps alongside my doggy foster sister and basking in togetherness. Of course, I also love to play with my doggy siblings, as wrestling is so much fun! Don’t let my three legs fool you; I can frolic with the best of them, and sometimes even need a gentle reminder from my foster sis to ease up on the rigor of play. It’s just such a blast to be outside, chase squirrels, and run around with my loved ones! Back in the day on the farm, I was outside all the time, but now I prefer to get my energy out in bursts and spend the rest of the day lounging indoors and being a “sweetheart,” as everyone calls me.
My other favorite pastimes are walking, being brushed and getting attention. My dislikes are reflections, bright lights, camera flashes, slippery rugs, stairs and being left alone for long without my humans…but let’s talk more about the things I love!
I look forward to my daily, leisurely 30-minute walk, and hope that my new family enjoys long strolls as much as I do! I also love food and treats, but need to be kept lean due to my orthopedic issues.
You see, I lost my rear right leg in a tractor accident some years ago, and then tore the ACL in my remaining back leg, which required extensive surgery to repair my knee and assure my continued mobility. But I’m not one to stay down for long, and am now fully recovered and getting around better than ever. The way I see it, there are positives to every situation, and every day that I am loved and able to give love in return is a good one. All the trauma from my past has lead me to you, my furever family, with whom I will share new adventures and build lifelong, unbreakable bonds. I can’t wait to meet you!
