Description:
Hi! My name is Sarge and I’m a big, happy, one year old pup. I’m a Great Dane mix and I have a lot to learn about socializing with other dogs that tend to be “assertive”. I’m working with a trainer as I’m fearful and I react defensively when other assertive dogs are around and especially when they get too close. We’re working hard on this reactive behavior so I need a lot of space. With dogs that are inherently good natured and playful, I do ok and can read that type of behavior.
Given I’m extremely food motivated and love to play with toys, my training is going well! We’re working on jumping as I’ve been having trouble – and I need help working on having a “soft mouth”. I know yanking on the leash is a no, no and makes it harder to walk with my family.
I’m house trained and need a bit more practice with a front clip harness so I can master walking really well on a leash. My foster family said that while I’m active, I haven’t worn them out yet! After running around and playing I’m perfectly content to lay on my bed and chew on a nylabone.
I have a genetic issue with my rear legs, however, it does not affect my ability to run or play! I’m knock-kneed and duck footed. I can help teach people that having a minor disability only makes you MORE special! I need someone that is patient and enjoys training dogs with some of my issues – preferably someone with training experience!
I do pretty well with cats and I’m more comfortable with women than men at this point. Based on my current foster situation, I’m not around children very often so I may need some training so I’m comfortable around small humans.
