Description:
I’m very cute, full of energy and sweet, but I need help. I am located in the Houston south area, and I was found as a stray last April 2016 then impounded in a local high kill shelter. Officers at the shelter noticed that I was not using my back legs to walk and they contacted the woman who is my foster mom now.
My rear leg function is uncoordinated and my legs are weak and lack muscle, so I drag them but they may not be paralyzed. My foster mom tried several veterinarians and took me to the chiropractor too. We had different opinions about what could be my unknown past and why my rear legs don’t work so well.
Veterinarians think I could have had a bacterial or viral infection that damaged my neurological system and affected the coordination of my back area and legs. The chiropractor told my foster mom that she thinks I was born like that due to a congenital vertebral malformation. All specialists think I may walk better with time, and with work on stretching and building my weakest muscles, but I will never walk perfectly.
Anyway, I love my wheel cart and since I’ve been using it my back legs have built muscle and I use them more. I run everywhere with my wheel cart because I am full of life and energy!
My foster mom says that I love everyone and I am very playful. I play rough like a puppy but I listen and learn fast. I love food and treats, and that really helps towards my training. I play fetch and I love toys. Sometimes I even play by myself throwing the ball in the air!
I am medium size dog, but have short legs and a longer, heavy body around 25-30lbs. My foster mom uses disposable male dog wraps with me to help me with indoor potty training, and she notices that I can sometimes hold my pee until I get outside. I have regular bowel movements, normally after eating, but I may not let you know about it and will go whenever I have to. I could use some help with house training! My foster mom told me that she thinks once I find a forever home where I have all the attention I need and I am used to an schedule I would be better even controlling my physical needs. My foster mom bought me a pair of boots to protect my back legs because we live in a house where it is mostly concrete and not grass in the back yard, and I eventually drag my back legs when walking on my wheel-cart and I filed down some of my nails.
I do not have medical needs, I just need physical care, and a lot of patience and attention. I love when my foster mom pets me! I mainly use the front of my body so when she massage and scratches my front muscles, ears, neck, it helps me a lot with my muscle stiffness. Since I can’t use my back legs, I can’t scratch myself, so I love all the scratches I can get!
My foster mom made a video about me, take a look:
